Global edtech leader Discovery Education presents a new collection of engaging, high-quality digital resources to support classroom observances of World Poetry Day. Available via Discovery Education’s award-winning digital learning service Espresso and the DoodleEnglish Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation programme, this new, high-quality content is closely mapped to the National Curriculum for English in UK primary schools.

Taking place on 21st March, World Poetry Day is an annual event organised by UNESCO that encourages people to read, write, and teach poetry. Featuring poets such as Joseph Coelho, Robert Burns and Christina Rosetti, Discovery Education’s dynamic World Poetry Day resources will inspire pupils to discover, share and enjoy many different types of poetry, from traditional rhymes to modern poetry and free verse.

Discovery Education’s World Poetry Day resources include:

  • Poetry Teaching Ideas: A range of inspiring classroom activities to develop pupils’ understanding of poetry
  • Poetry Writing Ideas: Engaging story starters and prompts to help pupils write their own poems
  • Poetry Library: Videos, audio and supporting resources to build a love of poetry and develop reading and comprehension skills
  • Performing Poetry: Tips for learning and performing poems, shared by children’s poet Joseph Coelho
  • DoodleEnglish Programme: Thousands of interactive exercises covering spelling, grammar, punctuation and reading comprehension, all designed to explore language in fun and accessible ways
