Emma Knights, Chief Executive of the National Governance Association (NGA), will chair a panel discussion on school and trust governance. She will be joined by Simon Hay, CEO of Firefly Learning to share his experiences as a governor.

The session will explore:

  • The role of governors and trustees and how they support children and young people
  • The opportunities and benefits governance brings for education businesses and individuals  
  • How to get involved and support your staff to govern

Guest Speaker - Emma Knights, Chief Executive, National Governance Association (NGA)

Emma is Chief Executive of the National Governance Association (NGA) - the leading charity for guidance, advice, research, and professional development for school governors, trustees and governance professionals. Emma is an accomplished writer and speaker on a range of school governance policy and practice topics. She has a particular interest in vision, culture and strategy; environmental sustainability; stakeholder engagement; disadvantage; ethical leadership; and diversity and inclusion and is author of NGA’s Chair’s Handbook. Prior to joining NGA, Emma was joint CEO of the Daycare Trust. Emma was awarded an OBE in the 2018 New Year's Honours list for services to education.
