The first of a new series of online training sessions delivered by the Education Media Centre (EMC) in partnership with BESA, this half-day copy writing seminar aims to equip you with all the tools you’ll need to write clear, concise and arresting copy for a wide range of audiences.
The seminar is hosted by one of the UK's most respected education journalists alongside a highly experienced corporate copywriter.
Fran Abrams has written hundreds of thousands of words for national newspapers and broadcast, along with six factual books. She now runs EMC, a charity devoted to ensuring good evidence about education gets to those who can use it.
Jo Davies is a copywriter with 20 years’ experience working with companies and organisations across a range of sectors. Her portfolio includes marketing communications, short copy and features, web editing, video scripts, speech writing and newsletters. The event will cover:
- Strategic thinking – why am I doing this and for whom?
- Why would anyone read this now?
- Writing in a range of formats – from press releases to flyers
- Writing basics: using English in a simple, direct way
- How to organise your material
- How to deploy evidence
- Tone of voice
- How to get your message across through different channels
The session will include a practical exercise, and participants will take home a checklist on how to become an original, arresting and persuasive copywriter. Essential for anyone who wants their words to get noticed.
